Last week Jacob Zuma was hosted by the Black Journalist Forum and both parties were lambasted by the media. The event was seen as racist as it excluded the white journalists in South Africa. Michael Trapido (a white journalist) had this to say: "
There is no nice way of saying this, but those black journalists who chased away their white colleagues at a function attended by Jacob Zuma should not be allowed to continue in this profession. If they are to provide a safeguard against political abuse and report on the moral well-being of this country, then I have a number of problems"...
He is not the only one who felt this way though about what took place at the function..JZ defended himself by saying that he can not be blamed for white journalists being excluded from the function! He said; "I was only invited by the forum to be part of the event"..well, I am not a big fan of JZ but judging from that stament i would say maybe they should cut the man some slack OK..but with JZ you just never know rite? Anyway, i dont see the forum as a racism plot because if one looks at the origins of the Forum, it was formed as a way of freedom of speech for black journalists in the country who could not report on the events as they unfolded during the apartheid regime..!It was disbanned in 1996 but is now alive again..perhaps it is pointless to continue the forum now as we live in a "TRANFORMED COUNTRY"!! and it could be seen as a disgrace to our democracy..i believe it played a pivotal role in those days, as far as our country is concerned there probably is no need for it now..!
